Aimless Wanderer

Hyohakusha is a lyrical trip to Japan, passing through Galicia (magic land in the northwest of Spain). Two women filmmakers recover twenty forgotten rolls of Super8 that showed the journey of two Galicians to different places of Japan in 1973, and with this material, and the reflections and emotions of his owner watching the rolls for the first time (the son of the travelers) with her wife, that is Japanish and could not know her father in law that died soon after that trip, these two filmmakers give birth to a new story seeking suggestive relations between the two countries (half of the film is filmed by them in Galicia, also in Super8). This filmmakers during the process of making this film are reading a book of haikus of Basho, that wrote in his lyrical diary "Oku no Oshomichi" about the beauty of some of the places where this Galician couple went to visit in their trip to Japan many centuries later. So some passages of this travelogue are included too.

A Galician man's curiosity about his long-lost relatives who immigrated to Buenos Aires takes him on a surreal journey across times and space. Through travel, photographs, letters, and phone calls he explores the unpredictable ways in which immigration creates both bonds and distance between people and places. "Bs.As." received various awards including the Premio Foco Galicia (Tui, 2007).

Phyllis

Phyllis is a moving and atmospheric portrait of a ‘psychic’ vampire, a woman obsessed with synthetic Nollywood dramas, that lives alone in Lagos, Nigeria. The central idea of this short experimental film is the practise and significance of wig-wearing in Nollywood film; a practise the director has invested with deeper psychological as well as science-fiction layers. Underpinning this central idea however is a critique of the unforgiving treatment of single women in Nollywood and Nigeria. The film is an example of what the director, Zina Saro-Wiwa, has termed “alt-Nollywood”, a genre that plays with and reworks certain narrative, stylistic and visual conventions of Nollywood. Phyllis explores the gothic possibilities of the Nollywood aesthetic creating a new kind of low-budget atmospheric film that is very much of Nollywood and yet subverts the genre. Using Nollywood to subvert Nollywood.

The Witness

In the Second World War, probably in a concentration camp somewhere, Gary Sinise is a soldier who conducts Jews everyday to some place where only clothes come back, under the eyes of an young prisoner boy (Elijah Wood).
